Year 7 Admissions

If you wish to apply for a place for your child in Year 7 at Barnhill, you must complete an application form from your home Local Authority (where you pay council tax).  You must also return the form to your Local Authority, not to the school. Appeals

You can appeal no later than 28 days after you receive your refusal letter. If you wish to appeal, please visit http://www.appealsclerks.co.uk/ and lodge your appeal.

Please note that all appeal hearings for admission in 2025 will take place via Zoom Conferencing.

Monday 3rd March 2025 National Offer Day
Friday 16th May 2025 Deadline for lodging your appeal and uploading evidence using the on-line appeal form for admission into Year 7 in September 2025.
Thursday 12th June 2025 Deadline to submit all evidence – any evidence received after this date may not be accepted by the panel.
At least 14 days prior to the hearing You will receive, the time and date of your hearing by email to the email address on your appeal form. Please check junk folder regularly so that this is not missed. You will receive a copy of the paperwork you have submitted for your appeal, a copy of the school’s case and the names of the panel members shortly after this.
Week commencing 30th June 2025 Appeal Hearings (subject to availability of panel members).
Within 7 calendar days of the last hearing You will receive an email setting out the decision made by the Independent Appeal Panel. A detailed letter will follow thereafter.

The school’s statement of case will provide an explanation of how the admission of an additional child would cause prejudice to the provision of efficient education or efficient use of resources. This should/could include:

  • The Governor’s have consulted on their admission policy
  • The school’s net capacity
  • The impact on the school if another child were to be admitted
  •  Health and Safety implications
  • No additional funding for an extra teacher
  •  No extra resources i.e. desks, chairs

Decisions of the appeal panel will be notified in writing to the appellant(s), admission authority and signed by the clerk or chair of the appeal panel as soon as possible.
