KS3 Science club with Mr Prospero:
Universal indicator ‘rainbow’
Students created a rainbow effect using universal indicator, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide. They observed the colour changes when universal indicator was added to different concentration of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, consolidating their fundamental knowledge about acids and alkali. Students layered the solution in a measuring cylinder to appreciate the a ‘rainbow’ of universal indicator effect, a great attention-grabbing experience.
KS4 Lesson (Heart dissection) with Ms Mohobuth
Students labelled different parts of the heart on the tomato, and this helped them to better grasp the structure and function in a tangible, memorable way. Real-life connections like these make complex concepts accessible and engaging, sparking curiosity and deepening their learning experience.

Science at play: Making colourful playdough
Through this fun practical, students were able to use the right scientific terminologies such as ‘solution’, ‘mixtures’, ‘chemical reaction’. Students learnt that when salt and flour combined together produce a mixture, they are physically combined but no reaction has taken place. When the water and food colouring mix completely they form a solution. When all the ingredients are heaped in together and kneaded, a new substance is formed because chemical reactions have taken place.

Students delivered slides of presentation to the rest of their peers. This provided an opportunity to develop oracy. They were able to articulate ideas, develop understanding and engage with others through spoken language.

Students works in small groups to investigate pressure in liquid. They asked questions and developed a line of enquiry based on observations of the real world, alongside prior knowledge and experience.
