Advice from our current Year 7s
Some of our amazing Year 7 students have provides some advice to help you to settle into life at Barnhill Community high school. Take a look at their advice to help you with your first few weeks in your new school.
Starting high school was a combination of excitement and nerves for me. I was really looking forward to meeting all the amazing teachers and making new friends. The most exciting thing was being able to do some fun subjects I had not done before. At the beginning of the school year, I was sure that I’d get lost trying to figure where all my classrooms were, but as the days went on, I found it much easier. I was amazed by how many nice friends I made. As the days flew by, I realised high school wasn’t as scary as I thought, its just a new chapter to begin. Good luck to all the new year 7s.

Starting high school was an exciting experience. I looked forward to making new friends, exploring new subjects and meeting my new teachers. At first everything seemed unfamiliar, learning my timetable, finding classrooms, and trying to make a good first impression.
However, as time went on, I made amazing friends, got used to mu classes and realised high school wasn’t as overwhelming as I first thought. Now year 7 is filled with fun trips, great teachers, unique experiences and treasured memories.

Right from the start of my time at Barnhill, it was very nice ad a comforting place. Teachers were nice and knew how to help us in our learning. Barnhill also had fun places to play like the Astro turf pitch where many students play football and enjoy their play times. Lessons are great and I learnt a lot like everyone else. PE is enjoyable and engaging, it encourages me to play different sports and feel good about myself. All children are behaved and hardworking in class.
The canteen had the most greatest food you could possibly think of. The head of year and pastoral support manager are very kind and also very helpful.
Look forward to meeting you.

When I first started Barnhill, I wasn’t that nervous as I was thrilled to start Barnhill. My neighbours told me about the big Astro pitch so I made sure I bought in a football everyday and played on the Astro where I had the best time of my life.
In PE, my group started off with dance which I did not love but still gave it my best. However, you get to play football, rugby, netball and much more as time goes on. The lessons encouraged us to do our best for example learning about particals in science. We do all sorts of experiments which are always so interesting, The canteen is one of my favourite places in school because they have lovely food and always great quality. My head of year year Mr King and Mrs Gill are very helpful and always there to support in anyway. See you in September, I am always here to help.

Our Curriculum
One of the best things about starting secondary school is being able to study lots of exciting new subjects and go in to more depth in subjects which have already been studied. At Barnhill Community High School, we have a broad range of subjects that students will be able to study.
Your child will be in different classrooms for every subject and sometimes they may have different names from the subjects studies in primary school. Our Curriculum Leaders are experts in their subject area and will be happy to support you with further information and advice should you need it.
