Science Club

As part of the CREST Awards, Y8s have been working on an interesting STEM project,
'Investigating the effect of moisture on the hatching rate of stick insect eggs'. We currently have three stick insects that appear to be happily thriving in their little habitat/enclosure.
An interesting fact shared by students:  
Stick insects have the ability to reproduce parthenogenetically. This is a form of asexual reproduction where the unfertilised females produce eggs that hatch into female. If a male fertilizes the egg, it has a fifty-fifty chance of turning out male.
