Realities of War Workshop
The Army teach a lesson to some Y9 students
In the Autumn Term, year 9 students studied World War 1 & World War 2 in lessons, and a selective group of students, who have demonstrated a passion and prowess in History, had the opportunity to work with the army on a Realities of War workshop. As part of this, the student's participated in a presentation from the army covering specific details of the reality of life in the trenches.
Sergeant Bufton took the students through a field activity where they learnt how to throw grenades (thankfully tennis balls in our session!) as if in World War II to recreate part of the Battle of the Somme, truly bringing the conflict to life.
Students were lucky enough to see and hold artefacts from World War 1 & World War 2, hear stories of combat and ask questions about what life is like as a soldier now compared to World War 1 & World War 2.
