Shout West! Creative Writing Festival
Future Writers in Year 8
The English Department organised a trip to the Shout West Creative Writing Festival at Brunel University in West London. Twenty students from across Year 8 took advantage of the opportunity to spend two days with award winning writers and illustrators of children's fiction book. Pupils took part in creative writing and illustration workshops, developing their fiction writing skills. All students finished the course with imaginative stories that could be developed further; learnt new techniques to use in their creative writing and a participation certificate. Our Year 8 students felt immensely inspired by meeting and discussing their ideas with the published authors. They will certainly be writing many more stories, and expressed their interest in starting up a creative writing after-school club in the near future. Undeniably, participating in the festival was a memorable experience for students and us as teachers.
"During the Shout West! Festival, I really enjoyed myself. It was an amazing experience to meet different writers and all showed us different techniques they used in their writing fashions." - Dristi
"The Shout West Festival was an inspirational event and taught me different ways of seeing the world of writing." - Satwat
